Pastor
Right Reverend Father Vladimir Mudri was born on June 22, 1945 in Krizevci, Yugoslavia, the third child of Reverend Father Kiril and Helen Mudri. He grew up in a loving family of six boys and four girls (John, late Peter, Vladimir, Michael, late Theodore, George, late Maria-Gerthrude S.S.M.I., Anna, Helen, Kiril, Oksana).
Vladimir completed his elementary school in Vrbas, Yugoslavia, when, as a young boy, he discerned that he had a calling to the priesthood. He left home, for Zagreb, Yugoslavia where he completed his secondary education at Sts. Cyril and Methodius Greek Catholic Seminary. Following two years of compulsory service in the Yugoslav People’s Army, Vladimir began his academic and spiritual formation for the priesthood at the Pontifical University Urbaniana in Rome, Italy. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Philosophy on June 28, 1968; a Bachelor of Theology Degree on October 9, 1970; and, a Master of Theology Degree on June 24, l972. He was ordained to the priesthood, on August 27, 1972, by the late Bishop Gabriel Bukatko, in his home parish of the Dormition of the Mother of God in Kucura, Yugoslavia.
Father Vladimir spent his first two years in the priesthood in Yugoslavia, where he served as assistant pastor at St. Nicholas parish in Ruski Krstur. On March 21, 1974 he came to Canda and began his pastoral duties at the parish of the Transfiguration of Our Lord in Preeceville, Saskatchewan. From 1975 to 1979 Father Vladimir served as pastor of the parish of the Dormition of the Mother of God (Sutherland), and as assistant pastor at St. George’s Cathedral in Saskatoon. In 1979 Father Vladimir returned to Rome to pursue his studies and, after three years, obtained a Ph.D. in Oriental Canon Law at the Pontifical Oriental Institute. Subsequently he returned to Canada and was appointed pastor of All Saints Parish in North Battleford where he served from 1984 to 1992. Since 1992 he has been the pastor of St. George’s Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral in Saskatoon.
In addition to his parish duties and responsibilities, Father Vladimir has been: an active member of the Ukrainian Catholic Brotherhood of Canada since 1976; Judicial Vicar for the Eparchy since August 27, 1984; Eparchial Consultor since February 25, 1986; Judge in the Regina Regional Marriage Tribunal since November 4, 1986; Member of the Knights of Columbus since November 8, 1987; Chancellor of the Saskatoon Eparchy since March 7, 1988; Member of the Presbyteral Council of the Eparchy since March 12, 1992; and Archprotopresbyter since November 8, 1994.
